Ritten House Inspiration

This piece was inspired by Ritten House Square. As I sat in the park i noticed all the thick, yellow, pollen being blown off the trees by the wind and covering the ground like hay. This made me think of a park where the ground was yellow and the trees were a yellowish orange. And since there are many children and people walking their dogs out in ritten house during the spring, I decided to include that as well. Only I did not want the piece to be completely cheerful. I wanted to give it more of a mysterious, subtly disturbing quality. This is why the figures don't have eyes or legs.

In this piece i was just fooling around with designs and space. I wanted to have this dark goddess like figure unveiling her world to us. This painting is done in acrylic and for the background I used washes of different variations of reds and yellows.

In this piece I was experimenting with collage. It is acrylic paint with magazine cutouts. I took swatches of color from magazines that I found interesting and I used them to create organic shapes. I wanted to create a surreal image. I enjoy fantasy and this piece is just a snippet of how my mind interprets what fantasy looks like.

Consumed By Addiction

In this piece I wanted to show how addiction hurts more than just the addict. I wanted to show how alcoholism can break a family apart. In this piece the father is drifting away from the mother and daughter and being consumed by this dark mass. The mother is gazing in the opposite direction and in a way fading also into her own depression. The little girl is clinging to her father's pinky and holding her mother's hand at the same time desperately trying to hold her family together. She is the only light because she is the only hope for the family. In this piece I experimented with design. My approach to this piece was inspired by the artist Chagall. I wanted to show how dark addiction can be through a more surreal way.

Comics...

These comics were done in our sequential format studio class.
It was initially a drawing warm up..each person drew one frame on a piece of paper and then it was passed on (randomly) to another person to draw the second frame..and so on..
It was really cool to pick up where someone else left off and we ended up with a bunch of awesome comic strips!
